June 25 and June 26, Rubys Inn to Escalante and Escalante to Torrey, Nevada
Escalante to Torrey was about 4000 feet of climbing, up to 14% grades for small sections. Burned a lot calories- but made up for it by eating very well. Some of the downhills were a bit scary (see picture of Steve's hair after a descent). Met some nice people- the Dean of the Agriculture School at UC Davis and a wine maker from California. My kids call me Mr. Howdy for talking to anyone about anything, but it pays off when you ask where the best places to eat are. We ate at Hell's Backbone Grill in Boulder, Utah for dinner last night and then again for breakfast today. The afternoons have been over 100 degrees.
